WHO OWN THE GOLD MINES IN MALAYSIA

PETALING JAYA: While gold mining is not a new business activity in Malaysia, it does not seem to have any significant domestic capital market participation. But the striking fact remains that at least five of the country's gold mines are part of the assets of many listed companies abroad. Among them is a Raub mine operated by Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd, which in turn is a subsidiary of Peninsular Gold Ltd, listed on London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market. The company is under the control of Datuk Seri Andrew Kam Tai Yeow with a 29.5% stake, who is also its chairman and chief executive. Peninsular Gold is the only listed gold company with assets in Malaysia that is managed by locals, while the others seem to have foreign ownership (partly) and management. But although profitable, Peninsular Gold's earnings are paltry for now. For its six-months ended December 2011, the company recorded a net profit of £86,049 (RM421,734) on revenue of £6.805mil (RM33.35mil). The year before, it reported a profit of £657,283 (RM3.22mil) on revenue of £14.19mil (RM69.54mil). Its market capitalisation stands at around £18mil (RM88mil). Peninsular Gold's plans have been to use better technology in the extraction of gold at its Raub plant, which has a proven reserve of 202,000 ounces of gold. Industry experts say there are three major mines in Malaysia located in Raub, Penjom and Selinsing, in Pahang. Since June 2011, the Penjom mine has changed ownership. Norwegian Avocet Mining PLC divested its interest in the mine, which is now under the wings of privately held PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama, Indonesia's second-largest mining contractor. Details of the mine has been off the radar but according to last known data, the mine had produced 39,150 ounces of gold for the nine-months ended Sept, 2010. The Selinsing mine, operated by Canada's Monument Mining Ltd, is another well-established gold mine, with a production of 44,585 ounces of gold recorded for its year ended June 2012. The mine lays claim to having one of the lowest production costs at US$306 (RM930) per ounce. Monument Mining is also exploring other mining projects in the country, including the Mengapur polymetalic project near Sri Jaya, Pahang. The mine is said to have deposits of copper, sulphur, iron, gold and silver. Another interesting miner is Singapore-listed CNMC Goldmine Holdings Ltd which has the rights to the 2,370 acres Sokor gold field. CNMC reckons that this gold field is the most prospective but undeveloped hard rock gold mining area in Malaysia. In June, CNMC announced its gold reserves rose by 20% to 82,000 ounces. CNMC is founded by one Lin Xiang Xiong, a Chinese national who is the chief advisor for China International Trade to the Kelantan state government. For its six months ended June, the company recorded a net profit of US$482,646 (RM1.46mil) on a revenue of US$5.178mil (RM15.74mil). Over in East Malaysia, a new kid on the block has emerged in the form of Canadian firm Olympus Pacific Minerals Inc. Olympus acquired the 1,400-sq-km Bau gold project as a result of the merger with Zedex Minerals Ltd in 2009, and now has a 83.25% interest in the project. The project has 560,000 ounces of indicated gold and another 1.89 million ounces of inferred gold. The Bau region is a historic gold field with many geological similarities to the Carlin District of Northern Nevada, which is one of the world's largest gold fields. Largely focused in South-East Asia, Olympus is the largest gold producer in Vietnam and operates several underground narrow vein gold mines and an open-pit gold mine at its two production sites in Vietnam. It also has a gold field in the Philippines.

Direkod oleh Muslim (no: 1587).

Soalan 1: Boleh saya tukar 10 keping 1gram emas dengan 1 sekeping 10gram?
Soalan 2: Boleh saya beli barang kemas (emas) dengan dinar?

PERLUKAH DINAR ???

DINAR.

DINAR.
Anda beli dinar untuk
(A) Koleksi
(B) Satu lagi bentuk simpanan emas selain jongkong/wafer dan barang kemas
(C) Muammalat

Jika DINAR dijadikan barang komoditi, barang dagangan, maka apa tujuan DINAR???

Gold holds near 7-week low

PRECIOUS-Gold holds near 7-week low; eyes on Fed meeting

Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:43am GMT
* Gold prices under pressure from firm dollar
* Coming up: FOMC policy decision, 1815 GMT
* Dealers eye seasonal Indian demand before Diwali (Updates prices, byline, adds comment)
By David Brough
LONDON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Gold prices hovered near a seven-week low on Wednesday as a weak reading of the German economy lifted the dollar versus the euro, while dealers awaited the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy statement later in the day.
Pressure from the dollar helped keep prices near Tuesday's seven-week low of $1,703.50 per ounce, putting it on track to decline in October for the first month in five.
Spot gold was at $1,708.90 an ounce at 1023 GMT against $1,708.09 late in New York on Tuesday, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery were up 30 cents an ounce at $1,709.70.
Gold has lost momentum after failing to break through the psychologically important $1,800 an ounce level earlier this month. It hit a 2012 high on Oct. 5 at $1,795.69 after the Federal Reserve unveiled a third round of quantitative easing measures to stimulate growth.
"I think we're going to have another test on the downside. The market is still quite heavily long, especially on the Commitment of Traders," Jeremy East, head of trading at Standard Chartered said, referring to a report released Friday, which showed bets on rising prices were still at elevated levels.
Investors are awaiting the outcome of a two-day Federal Reserve meeting in Washington on Wednesday. While the Fed is not expected to add to last month's stimulus pledge, its comments will be closely watched for clues on policy direction.
Dealers are focusing on the likely outcomes for the gold price from the U.S. election on Nov. 6, with some seeing a possible Mitt Romney victory as signalling an earlier exit from the Fed's money-printing strategy and a lower gold price.
Opinion polls are neck and neck between Romney and President Barack Obama.
Dealers are also focused on the level of demand for gold from top consumer India, particularly during its festival season which peaks with Diwali next month. A strengthening of the rupee could lead to a pick-up in gold demand after a subdued year so far.
"In a weak economy, the weak rupee had dampened demand," Natixis analyst Nic Brown said.
SUPPORT SEEN
From a technical perspective, analysts who study past price patterns for clues on the next direction of trade flag up support at the key psychological level of $1,700 an ounce.
"The next level of support after that is $1,660 an ounce, which coincides with gold prices before Fed Chairmen Ben Bernanke's speech on economic policy at a Jackson Hole, Wyoming, summit on 31 August," HSBC said in a note.
"We continue to see modest pressure on gold prices in the near term, barring any surprise announcements by the FOMC for additional monetary easing policies."
In South Africa, which has been hit by a wave of violence linked to labour unrest this year, Gold Fields said late on Tuesday it had sacked 8,500 wildcat strikers after they ignored an ultimatum to return to work or face dismissal.
Silver was up 0.8 percent at $31.90 an ounce, while spot platinum was flat at $1,568.99 an ounce and spot palladium was up 0.8 percent at $596.10 an ounce.
Palladium outperformed platinum after falling nearly 5 percent on Tuesday, posting its biggest one-day price drop since March, though it remained near two-month lows.
The metal has suffered along with other industrial commodities this year from perceptions that the global economy is struggling for growth. (Editing by Jane Baird)

BHarian: Emas mampu cecah AS$2,500 seauns

Harga emas berlegar AS$1,760 seauns semalam.
Perkembangan ekonomi dan geopolitik semasa menyaksikan dorongan kenaikan harga pasca 2000.

Sementara itu, Pengarah Dana Runcit Bahagian Pengurusan Dana AMMB Holdings Bhd, Ng Chze How (gambar), berkata prestasi lebih baik saham syarikat berkaitan perlombongan emas berbanding pergerakan harga emas fizikal sejak sedekad lalu mendorong AMMB Holdings menambah saiz dana AmPrecious Metal tidak kurang tiga kali daripada 350 juta unit sejak dilancarkan pada 2007, kepada 600 juta unit dan terkini kepada 750 juta unit.
Beliau berkata, dana berasaskan Syariah AmPrecious Metal dilaburkan dalam saham syarikat global terbabit aktiviti berkaitan emas dan logam berharga, seperti syarikat pelombongan emas kerana statistik menunjukkan prestasi saham syarikat terbabit jauh lebih baik berbanding pergerakan harga emas fizikal sejak sedekad lalu.

H Metro: Bukan Niaga Emas

Oleh Muhammad Apendy Issahak apendy@hmetro.com.my

US Jobless Claims Boost Gold

By  - Exclusive to Gold Investing News

Gold for December delivery was up on Thursday, hitting $1,788.70 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange on poor jobs numbers coming out of the United States and a signal that the European Central Bank (ECB) is preparing to buy government bonds.
Both events proved bullish for gold, which is seen as a hedge against inflationary monetary policies.
On Thursday, jobless claims in the US rose by 4,000 to 367,000 for the week ended September 29. Monthly data is expected on Friday. In Europe, ECB president Mario Draghi said the bank is prepared to buy bonds when debt-riddled countries such as Greece and Spain meet the proper conditions for a bailout.

In mid-September, the ECB initiated a bond-buying program aimed at lowering the borrowing costs of troubled Eurozone countries whose bond yields have risen to unsustainable levels. That was followed by a third round of quantitative easing — known as QE3 — whereby the US Federal Reserve will buy $40 billion worth of mortgage debt each month as it seeks to boost economic growth and reduce unemployment.

Earlier in the week, bullion moved to its highest level of the year, with spot gold touching $1,791.20 on Monday, its best performance since mid-November 2011. The gains were driven by a stronger euro and cautious sentiment ahead of key US employment data.

Jon Nadler, a senior analyst at Kitco, was quoted as saying the yellow metal is almost certain to hit the $1,800 level. ”ECB no action, jobless claims up 4,000. Not exactly the catalysts for a near 1% jump, but the bulls declare $1800 gold as being in the bag,” he wrote.

Gold equities shining

The slump in gold equities experienced by most miners and explorers appears to be waning, according to data from Dundee Capital Markets. The Canadian investment dealer said in a note on Wednesday that the S&P/TSX Global Gold Index has outperformed the spot price for one- and three-month periods. The firm issued buy recommendations and increased target prices for several gold equities, including Goldcorp (TSX:G), Osisko (TSX:OSK), Alamos Gold (TSX:AGI), Allied Nevada Gold (AMEX:ANV), Perseus Mining (ASX:PRU) and San Gold (TSX:SGR).

Gold mine unrest moves to Central Europe

The former Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan was the site of a mining protest on Wednesday when about 2,000 protesters stormed government headquarters in the capital, forcing police to fire tear gas to disperse them. Reuters reported that the protesters are demanding that the Kumtor gold mine, operated by Canada’s Centerra Gold (TSX:CG), be nationalized. Opponents of the foreign firm failed to win enough support in parliament this past June to bring the mine under state control.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, where platinum and gold mine strikes have paralyzed the sector and caused speculation that the price of gold may rise on production disruptions, Reuters reported that Gold Fields (NYSE:GFI) has settled a two-year-old dispute over the South Deep mine. The agreement protects existing jobs and creates an additional 400, and will cost the company $20 million in upstart costs. On the same day, the nation’s second-largest gold miner faced 2,000 striking miners who occupied a hill at the KDC West Mine to protest against being evicted from company housing. The miners are seeking a hefty pay increase.

On Wednesday, Gold One International (ASX:GDO) suspended workers at its Ezulwini mine for carrying out an illegal strike in defiance of a wage agreement signed in July. “I am disappointed that despite numerous requests to return to work, both before and after the award of the interdict, our employees have chosen to be in contempt of court and are acting without any regard for the rule of law. We are therefore without any option but to suspend these striking employees,” president and CEO Neal Froneman said in a statement.

Harmony Gold Mining (NYSE:HMY) also faced “intimidation” from workers who barricaded the entrance to its Kusasalethu mine on Thursday according to a company statement. The operation shut down Tuesday night after about 300 workers prevented the night shift from going underground.

$2.7 billion from gold sales going to poor countries

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will distribute $2.7 billion in windfall profits from gold sales to subsidize loans to poor countries, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. Member countries will receive a payment according to their weight within the IMF, the lending institution said, on the condition that they make at least 90 percent of the funds available to a trust fund that lends money to low-income countries, interest free.

Company news

AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU) is defending itself against a lawsuit from 31 former miners who have accused the third-largest gold producer of health-related negligence. The workers say they contracted silicosis while working in AngloGold’s mines, according to Reuters.

Australian gold miner Newcrest Mining (ASX:NCM) is also in court over complaints by junior explorer Gold and Copper Resources (GCR) “regarding its exploration licences and claims of breach of confidence,” according to a report in Australian Mining. The legal action is related to Newcrest’s plan to expand its Cadia gold mine; GCR holds a number of exploration licences all within 50 kilometers of the mine.

Continental Gold (TSX:CNL) enjoyed a 7 percent bump in its share price after nearly doubling the gold resources at its Buriticá project in Colombia, the company announced on Monday. The deposit now hosts about 5.4 million ounces of gold along with silver and zinc, around a 75 percent increase over last year’s metal count.

Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX,TSX:ABX) applied to the state of Montana to enlarge the pit at its Golden Sunlight mine in Montana, thus extending the mine’s life by two years. “The mine has applied for a layback of its south pit wall and add a second pit northeast of the Mineral Hill main pit,” The Montana Standard quoted an official from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality as saying. The expansion would add 4.2 million tons of ore for processing and extend operations to 2017 from 2015.

Junior company news

South America-focused Mariana Resources (TSX:MRY,LSE:MARL) has signed a letter of intent with Canadian company Condor Resources (TSXV:CN) to explore the Condor del Oro gold deposit in Northern Peru. The mine is about 130 kilometers west of Kinross’ Fruta del Norte gold deposit, one of the largest and richest in the world. Condor has granted Mariana two options whereby it can earn a 51 percent interest and operate the Pucayacu gold-copper property and the Yuracyacu copper-silver property.

Pacific Booker Minerals (AMEX:PBM) had a stock-jolting setback on Tuesday when the government of British Columbia rejected its plans for a copper-gold in the northwest of the Canadian province. The environment minister refused to grant the company an environmental assessment certificate due to concerns that the project would impact salmon populations and water quality in the Skeena River. Pacific Booker’s stock lost over two-thirds of its value, plummeting from $14.95 per share on Monday to $4.50 on Tuesday. It closed the day Thursday at $4.05.

Vantex Resources (TSXV:VAX) jumped 35 percent on Wednesday after the Canadian junior announced that Goldcorp founder and former chair Rob McEwen bought 500,000 shares in the company. The purchase increased McEwen’s investment to 7.8 million shares, or 12.4 percent of total shares. Vantex also said it resumed drilling on its Galloway project in Quebec, where it is exploring three gold zones.

Bila saya nak jual emas yang saya beli?

Sebelum anda jual , tanya diri sendiri -"Kenapa saya beli?"
Soalan lain - "Apa matlamat saya apabila memiliki emas?"

Membeli 1 gram setiap bulan, sebab tiada orang jual tanah sekaki persegi sahaja.
(4) Simpanan jangka masa panjang - PENCEN.

MUDAHNYA - Dimana anda beli, DISITU lah anda jual semula. Kenapa?

PETALING JAYA: There are many gold schemes available on the market but if the “consultants” offer deals that are too good to be true, the advice is: think twice.
Fund manager Danny Wong said investors should be careful of companies offering double-digit returns with no risk of losses, adding that it was unlikely that a company could get high returns without taking high risks.
“Investors should ask for more information about the companies they plan on investing their money in. Suspicious companies usually won't provide details like papers on studies or analysis,” he said.
Wong said the public should also avoid investing in companies without proper endorsement from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) or the Securities Commission (SC).
“A company that is licensed to take deposits or is in investment-related businesses will definitely be listed on BNM and SC websites,” he said.
The list of companies and funds registered with SC are available under the Data & Statistics section of its website (www.sc.com.my).
BNM provides a site (www.bnm.gov.my/microsites/fraudalert) which has guidelines on how to avoid being defrauded by doubtful banking and investment institutions.
The central bank's fraud alert site enhances public awareness on the dangers of falling prey to illegal financial schemes and lists information such as the definition of financial fraud, how to avoid becoming a victim, available enforcement action, how to report a fraud and a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) section.
The list of financial fraud activities prohibited by BNM includes illegal deposit taking, illegal Internet investment schemes and unauthorised use of credit or debit cards.
“Generally, if the offer is too good to be true, people are advised to be wary and make an effort to verify the validity of the promised high returns,” BNM said on the website.
The site also urges those who had fallen victim to illegal schemes to lodge a police report and file a compliant to the relevant enforcement agency.
It also urged victims to keep all related documents of investments such as bank-in slips, deposit slips, agreements and vouchers received from the company or the perpetrator to enable action to be taken

THE STAR :Gold trading firm Genneva's offices raided

PETALING JAYA: The police, Bank Negara, the Companies Commission of Malaysia and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism jointly raided gold trading firm Genneva Malaysia Sdn Bhdand its affiliates in the country for various suspected offences.
Singapore's Commercial Affairs Department also conducted a similar operation against Genneva Pte Ltd in the republic.
In a statement released yesterday, Bank Negara said the raid was to probe suspected offences under the laws administered by the agencies.
“The public is advised to be cautious in investing money to avoid becoming victims of activities that are illegal and in breach of the law,” the statement read.

The website for Genneva Malaysia remained accessible providing visitors with information on the company's background and contact details, among others.
The firm's Singapore portal, however, was not fully accessible.
The website for the Genneva Pte Ltd at http://www.genneva.com.sg/, takes visitors to a single page with the message that reads: “Work in progress, to ensure all obligations to our customers and consultants are met.”
The message urged for calm and cooperation during “these trying times as we work out amicable solutions for everyone”.
Genneva Singapore's Facebook stated: “Pray for positive outcome while the new management is working round the clock to solve problems.”
“We Shall Overcome!,” read a message posted on the page yesterday afternoon. (http://www.facebook.com/GennevaWorld.Sg)
Meanwhile, several clients and gold traders of the company cried foul over the raid.
A trader, who only wished to be known as Nick, said money earned from the purchase and sale of gold had helped fund his son through university.
“There has never been any complaint by the clients. The company has helped the livelihood of thousands of people. Why are the authorities interfering in a legitimate business?” he asked.
Another trader, S. Shanti, said the money from her buying and selling of gold, which she stressed was done with the relevant documentation and tax deductions, had helped pay for her mother's dialysis weekly treatment costing RM1,000 over the past three years.
“If they put a stop to this company, how am I going to foot the expensive bill for my mother's health?” she asked outside the company's office in Jalan Kuchai Maju 6.
She was among 100 customers, aged between those in their 20s and 70s, who had gathered at the office in support of Genneva after hearing of the raid yesterday afternoon.
They hoped that the authorities would complete the investigations and leave the company alone after that.
It was learnt that Bank Negara held a briefing with all the other agencies in Putrajaya at 8am before the simultaneous raids were conducted.
Staff at the Jalan Kuchai Lama office had their statements recorded until about 9pm before they were allowed to leave.
Officers at the scene were tight-lipped over the operation. However, they were seen carting away documents and files from the two premises located opposite each other.
As of 9.30pm, Bank Negara officers were still going through the records while customers of the company waited.

Bank negara serbu

Utusan - Syarikat jongkong emas diserbu

KUALA LUMPUR 1 Okt. - Sebuah syarikat pelaburan jongkong emas, Genneva Malaysia Sdn.

Survey Participants See Higher Gold Prices Next Week

Friday September 28, 2012 12:10 PM
Gold prices are finding underlying support from ultra-loose monetary policy and rising European debt problems and this could give the yellow metal further strength next week, say most participants in the Kitco News weekly Gold Survey.
In the Kitco News Gold Survey, out of 33 participants, 24 responded this week. Of those 24 participants, 20 see prices up, while two see prices down, and two are neutral or see prices moving sideways. Market participants include bullion dealers, investment banks, futures traders, money managers and technical-chart analysts.
Several participants who saw higher prices voiced similar reasons to what Carlos Perez-Santalla, precious metals broker at PVM Futures, said: “up QEF (quantitative easing forever), South African mounting troubles, European debt troubles and PBOC (People’s Bank of China) actions.”
Gold will rise next week, said Adam Hewison, president and chief strategist with INO and MarketClub.com. “Gold has become the new Apple for investors, look for this market to move over $2,000 by the end of the year,” he added.
Not everyone is forecasting higher prices. After such a strong rally, a few participants said they were looking for gold to retrace these gains, so they expected prices to be down next week.
Others who are neutral or see prices trading around current levels said gold is in a holding pattern for time being and needs time to digest the current rally.

Pelanggan Genneva buat laporan polis
